Cleveland is a major city in the U.S. state of Ohio. Located on the southern shore of Lake Erie, it is the county seat of Cuyahoga County and serves as the economic and cultural hub of Northeast Ohio.
Cleveland was founded in 1796 and rapidly grew into a major industrial center during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, becoming known as the "Forge of the American Revolution". The city was particularly renowned for its steel production and shipbuilding industries. However, like many other Rust Belt cities, Cleveland experienced a decline in manufacturing jobs starting in the mid-20th century.
Despite these challenges, Cleveland remains a vital urban center with a strong sense of community pride. Today, it is home to several notable educational institutions, including Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University, as well as world-class medical facilities such as the Cleveland Clinic, one of the top hospitals in the country.
Cultural highlights include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which celebrates the history and legacy of rock music; the Cleveland Museum of Art, known for its extensive collection of European and Asian art; and Playhouse Square, the largest performing arts center outside of New York City.
In recent years, Cleveland has undergone significant revitalization efforts, particularly in its downtown and waterfront areas. These initiatives have helped to attract new residents, businesses, and tourists, contributing to the city’s continued growth and renewal.
